Netflix picks up ‘Hemlock Grove’ for second season

Eli Roth’s horror series Hemlock Grove has earned a second season from Netflix.

The show’s first 13 episodes were posted on Netflix on April 19, notes Deadline. While it did earn mixed reviews from critics, subscribers were definitely more interested and Netflix claimed that more young adults tuned in on its first weekend than those who watched House of Cards.

“The worldwide fan response to Hemlock Grove was phenomenal,” Roth said in a statement. “Netflix members loved the potent combination of sexy monsters, mystery, and the dark family soap opera that ended with a huge twist, leaving audiences worldwide totally shocked. Season One was just a warm up for what we have in store for season two. Get ready to be scared in ways you never expected.”

According to Zap2It, the new season will have a new showrunner, Charles Eglee, who has worked on Dexter and The Walking Dead. Roth executive produces the series with Eglee, Brian McGreevy, Lee Shipman, Eric Newman and Michael Connolly.

The cast includes Landon Liboiron, Freya Tingley and Dougray Scott, Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgård. It is set in a small Pennsylvania town.

Hemlock Grove’s second season is expected to start shooting in late 2013.

Netflix is also producing a second season of House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black starts on July 11. The company recently launched the fourth season of Arrested Development.
