At this point, the project is a spec package, so all four men are attached as a package and it now has to find a studio. According to Deadline, which first reported on the project, the package is expected to be a big sale and has Eric Newman, Bryan Unkeless and Landis producing.

Landis, who wrote Chronicle and American Ultra, has been tweeting about Bright. He revealed that he wrote a dedication to Ayer on the script’s title page and he then picked it to direct.

Ayer has done crime dramas in the past. He wrote Training Day and helmed the Jake Gyllenhaal movie End of Watch, both of which centered on police.

Smith will next be seen in Suicide Squad, which opens on Aug. 5. He’s also working on Collateral Beauty. Edgerton will next be seen in Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Special.
