U.S. Olympic skier Picabo Street has been charged with assault and domestic violence after a dispute with her elderly father turned physical.
The Associated Press noted that authorities said Street told them that she pushed her 76-year-old father down the stairs of a home in Park City, Utah, before locking him in the basement and calling police. The retired Olympian claimed that she did so because he pulled her hair during a fight the two had last month.
Court documents show that the argument between Street and dad began after he bumped his car into the house as he was trying to leave. Ronald Street said that his daughter grabbed his elbow and neck before pushing him down the stairs. He is said to have wounds consistent with that statement.
Investigators said that the fight happened just before Christmas and in front of Street’s children.
The 44-year-old gold medalist was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence in the presence of a child and one count of misdemeanor assault.
Street won a gold medal at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics and last competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics near Salt Lake City. She is due back in court on Feb. 16.
"We are prepared to offer a plea deal at the next scheduled court hearing," said Prosecutor Ivy Telles.
