That was quick. After being fired before the 2015 season finale, former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was hired by the San Francisco 49ers to replace Jim Tomsula. Meanwhile, the Eagles have run into trouble finding their replacement for Kelly.
The Niners announced the hiring this afternoon.
Kelly made a name for himself during his time at the University of Oregon, first as offensive coordinator and then as head coach, for his lightning-quick offence. He took his style to the Eagles, where he had two 10-win seasons, going to the postseason in his first season. However, 2015 was a disaster after he was given complete control over the roster. The team only won six games before he was fired prior to week 17.
Still, the Niners are hoping that he can work with their roster and help fix it. San Francisco had an even worse season than the Eagles, with just five wins and an offense that mustered a league-worst 238 points all season.
Meanwhile, the Eagles’ search to replace Kelly took a hit today, reports ESPN. That’s because former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin took himself out of the running for the job. The Eagles will probably go after Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson, a source told ESPN.
