While Stephon Marbury’s career in the NBA never quite panned out as well as he and fans hoped, he’s done so well in China that he’s earned a museum called the House of Marbury in Beijing.
On Monday, Marbury tweeted pictures from inside the museum, which tracks his career. According to ESPN, it will open to the public on Dec. 28.
Marbury has been playing in china since 2010, a year after his NBA career came to a disappointing end in Boston in 2009. Since then, he has led the Beijing Ducks to three Chinese Basketball Association championships. Last season, he was named finals MVP and averaged 29.7 points in the six-game series.
The Brooklyn native, 38, played at Georgia Tech in college and was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1996, but was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He also played for the New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks.
Before the museum opens, Marbury will receive a Chinese green card on Christmas Day, reports The New York Times. He will be one of only 5,000 foreign residents of China to become a permanent resident.
“t's a high honor to be the only foreigner playing in the CBA to be granted the card,” Marbury told China Daily. “I've already embraced the city (as my home). It just added more of the legality part to be able to do investments, and to bring business here legitimately, and then to buy a house, and to buy a car, to do all little different things in Beijing. It's pretty cool to be able to do that in a country where it's not allowed by many, you know to be the first basketball player to receive it. That's a historical moment.”
