Ole Miss football star in stable condition after fall from hotel room

Authorities in Atlanta have said that Ole Miss defensive player Robert Nkemdiche was hospitalized after he fell one story from his hotel room over the weekend.

ESPN reported that officers arrived to the Grand Hyatt Atlanta hotel in Buckhead on Saturday evening to find Nkemdiche, 21, injured but conscious and breathing. He was then transported to a nearby hospital and listed in stable condition.

The Associated Press noted that Kim Jones, spokeswoman for the police department said it is believed that the defensive lineman broke his hotel room window, climbed out over a wall and fell about 15 feet.

Law enforcement officials found a small amount of marijuana when they searched his room.

"We are still learning about the matter, but obviously Robert's well-being is our greatest concern,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement upon hearing the news.

Nkemdiche had an excellent season with the Rebels and has been projected as a top-five pick in next year’s NFL Draft if he chooses to enter.

His brother Denzel, also with the Rebels, was hospitalized earlier this season for what he called a “personal matter.”

The team will play Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
