Internet goes crazy over ‘Jeopardy’ contestant’s speech (Video)

Social media went wild on Monday night over a female contestant on Jeopardy who had a unique sound added at the end of her sentences.

Laura Ashby, a Vanderbilt and Yale educated woman, inadvertently sent the Internet into a frenzy over her “upspeak.”

For those unfamiliar with the term, it is also known as “high rising terminal” or “uptalk.” It actually is not an uncommon way of speaking, especially if someone is nervous or unsure of something (the way a contestant on a game show might be.) Upspeak should not be confused with “vocal fry.” Instead upspeak refers to the way in which declarative sentences are uttered with rising-pitch intonation.

Still a little confused on exactly what upspeak is? Then watch the video of Ashby below along with some of the reactions from Twitter and Facebook.

This woman annoyed the shit outta me.
