Kirk Cousins, not RG3, named Week 1 starter for Redskins (Sources)

The Washington Redskins have reportedly named Kirk Cousins the starting quarterback for Week 1 sparking the question about whether this is the end of the Robert Griffin III era in D.C.

PFT reported that multiple sources have confirmed that Cousins will start in the opener against the Miami Dolphins.

The Washington Post noted that sources have also claimed that owner Daniel Snyder is not blocking a trade for the 25-year-old Griffin. And another source said that the choice to keep Griffin out in favor of Cousins was made by head coach Jay Gruden.

"It's up to the coach and everyone is on board with that," the source said.

It hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. After a successful regular season his rookie year, he was left in a game by then-coach Mike Shanahan and suffered a major knee injury which ended his season and the team’s playoff run. Since then, he has been plagued by other injuries and never returned to his first-year form.

We’ll have to stay tuned to see how cousins plays and who will be named the starter for Week 2.
