IOC says Caitlyn Jenner will keep Olympic gold medal she earned as Bruce

A petition was started to urge Caitlyn Jenner to give back the gold medal she received as Bruce Jenner at the 1976 Olympics, but the IOC is now responding and assuring that will not happen.

The petition’s creator argued that Jenner was “in violation of committee rules” because she was “competing against the wrong gender.” She even started the hashtag #givebackthegold.

Although the petition did get almost 14,000 signatures, it ultimately doesn’t matter.

IOC communications director, Mark Adams, told Yahoo, “Bruce Jenner won his gold medal in the 1976 Olympic Games and there is no issue for the IOC."

In 2012, the IOC confirmed transgender athletes are permitted to participate as long as they’ve under gone a full gender reassignment surgery and a two-year minimum of hormones.

Since Caitlyn’s big debut, there’s also been backlash over the decision to give her the Arthur Ashe Courage award, with many taking to Twitter to say Lauren Hill or Noah Galloway should’ve got it instead.
