For fans of Mindy Kaling's sitcom, The Mindy Project, this news might be unsettling; the show has been cancelled by Fox after three seasons.
E! Online reported that despite Fox canceling the show, it is possible that the show would be pitched elsewhere because it is owned and produced by NBC Universal.
The reason for the cancelation might be that the third season experienced lower ratings despite a die-hard fan base and cult following.
NBC Universal is reported to have entered into talks with Hulu to move forward with multiple new seasons of the show, Entertainment Weekly reported. Hulu already owns the streaming rights to the sitcom.
Kaling has recently spoken about the show and how proud she was of the project with E! Online. I'm so proud of the show. There's nothing really that I would do differently in the way that we've built the those in the last couple of years, and I love our relationship with Fox and I would love for it to just continue," said Kaling.
