A very scary moment occurred during Tuesday’s matchup at Progressive Field between the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians when pitcher Carlos Carrasco was hit in the face by a line drive.

The Associated Press reported that Carrasco was hit by a line drive off of Melky Cabrera’s bat in the first inning. He immediately fell to the ground as manager Terry Francona and a trainer ran out to assist him. He was then carted off the field.
NBC Sports noted that the ball appeared to go off the pitcher’s wrist and ricocheted hitting the left side of his face. X-rays and tests following the game, however, revealed that the 28-year-old did not have any broken bones or a concussion. He did suffer a bruised jaw, but it could’ve been much worse.
"In the big picture, we dodged a really big bullet," Francona said. "Really fortunate."
Cabrera also gave his thoughts upon receiving word that Carrasco was not seriously injured.
"It was a very tough moment," he said. "It was real scary because it hit his face, but it's baseball. You can't control it once you hit the ball. I felt bad."
After Carrasco’s exit, the White Sox ended up winning the game 4-1.
