Buffalo Bills Marcell Dareus pleads guilty to two traffic violations

Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Marcell Dareus reached a plea agreement for street-racing charges stemming from when he crashed his vehicle last year.

The Associated Press noted that Dareus plead guilty in a Hamburg, New York courtroom Tuesday to failure to keep right and imprudent speed. He was fined $150 for each violation and will also do community service that includes hosting youth football programs.

"It was just a very unfortunate incident, and I just really didn't mean to be a distraction to the team and to the community," Dareus said in a statement. "I'm just really looking forward to being a very positive influence in Western New York for many years to come."

As previously reported, the 25-year-old was arrested in May and initially charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving and participating in an illegal speed contest.

Dareus was disciplined by the Bills after the incident and placed on the active/non-football injury list during camp.

He later failed a conditioning test and there were questions about how he would perform when the season started. His play was not affected and he was elected to his second Pro Bowl.

He could still face disciplinary action by the league for the upcoming season.
