One Direction’s Zayn Malik has left the band’s international tour, citing stress as the reason. Their publicist, Simon Jones, made the announcement via Twitter.
Malik has been known to miss performances, and raised eyebrows in November when he missed a Today Show appearance with the band to promote their album Four.
Jones tweeted on Thursday, “1D statement: Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate. The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta.”
Malik hasn’t commented himself yet, but his fans rallied to support him on Twitter with the hashtag “#HaveAGoodRestZayn.”
New York Times reports Malik’s break comes on the heels of him defending himself against rumors he split from Perrie Edwards from Little Mix.
“I'm 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards,” he tweeted. “And there's a lot of jealous f--ks in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like x.”
