Trent Richardson signs deal with Oakland Raiders

Another free agent has found a new place to play as running back Trent Richardson signed a deal with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday.

CSN Bay Area reported that the ex-Colt and former first-round pick is headed out West after two unmemorable seasons in Indy.

His new deal is for three years at $3.9 million.

NFL.com noted that Richardson was waived by the Colts Thursday and the Raiders snatched him up since the team was unsuccessful in the DeMarco Murray sweepstakes and lost Darren McFadden to the Dallas Cowboys.

The 24-year-old will either split the load or serve as a backup to Latavius Murray next season.

Richardson was selected No. 3 overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 draft and was traded to the Colts a year later for a 2014 first-round pick.

The former Alabama star never showed the same success and explosiveness out of the backfield like he did in college. During his four years in the league he has managed to average 3.3 yards per carry for just over 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns. However, he is still young and has time to prove if he can be a valuable back in the NFL.
