For music fans that checked Spotify's charts this morning, they saw Kendrick Lamar's name multiple times on many different charts. The rap superstar now holds the record for the fastest-streamed album ever, with Pimp to a Butterfly. The album has only been on Spotify for a day and has been listened to over 9.6 million times.
Lamar released his latest studio effort on Monday in order to avoid having the album leaked online before it's set release date which was March 23rd. The album has already taken over the Spotify and iTunes charts.
It would appear that the album was released without Lamar's knowledge. He took to Twitter to say that he didn't know the album was coming out, Time reported.
Entertainmentwise added that Lamar has taken the record away from Michael Buble, who held the record with 9.5 million streams with his Christmas album.
Even Kanye West has tweeted out support for this album, calling Lamar an inspiration and his album a gift to the world.
KENDRICK IS AN INSPIRATION. THANK YOU FOR THE VIBRATIONS AND THE SPIRIT. YOUR MEANING, MESSAGE AND EXECUTION ARE GIFTS TO THE WORLD.
