The fiancée of former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez testified Monday that she removed a box from their home after Odin Lloyd was killed.
The Boston Globe noted that Shayanna Jenkins said that her fiancé asked her to retrieve and dispose of the box.
“He told me to go downstairs in our storage room and remove a box,” she said.
Jenkins also testified that she did not bother to look at the contents inside the box and placed it in a trash bag with some clothing.
As previously reported, the 25-year-old was granted immunity last month. Her testimony is so crucial because prosecutors have said all along that they believe she got rid of the murder weapon after Hernandez allegedly killed Lloyd.
The victim was found shot to death in an industrial park not far from the athlete’s home, but the murder weapon has never been recovered. The prosecution said that the box was thought to have contained the gun used in the slaying.
The ex-NFL tight end has been charged with murder in the 2013 killing of Lloyd. He has plead not guilty.
