Top 10 Ed Sheeran songs

Over the last five years, Ed Sheeran has become a household name with two Grammy-nominated albums and international tours. Starting as an unknown artist playing open mic nights all around Los Angeles, I’d say Sheeran has come quite a long way.

Sheeran’s first album, +, was released in 2011 and landed on the charts with singles like "The A-Team", "Lego House" and "Drunk”.

His second album, X, came out in 2014 and, again, climbed the charts with the singles “Don’t”, “Sing”, and, most recently, “Thinking Out Loud”.

Working with One Direction and Taylor Swift is another strong point on 23-year-old Sheeran’s resume.

He opened for Swift on her Red tour in 2013, where they performed a song they co-wrote together called “Everything Has Changed”. Sheeran also co-wrote two songs for One Direction titled “Over Again” and “Little Things”, which became one of many of the band’s number one hits.

Although Sheeran has been nominated at the Grammy’s before, he has not yet won. We’ll see if his luck changes this Sunday.

With his new nominations, here is a list of Sheeran’s top 10 songs. Let us know if we missed any other great songs in the comments below.

#10. Lego House

As the third single off Sheeran’s debut album, +, this song helped put him on the map. At a Sheeran concert, when this song is performed, everyone in the audience sings along to every word. It’s a beautiful song, with Sheeran’s clever lyrics that he’s become known for having.

(It also helps that Rupert Grint stars in the music video too.)

#9. All of the Stars

From The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack, Sheeran sings a great song that incorporates ideas from the film, along with his own. You don’t have to be a fan of the film, or even know anything about it, to fall in love with this song.

The mention of “Chasing Cars,” a song by the band Snow Patrol, sold me even more on this song. His cover of that song is breathtaking and it would definitely be included on this list if I was including covers.

#8. Runaway

"Runaway" has a more soulful, yet fast pace to it that some of his songs don’t have. The beat to the song just sucks you in and makes you bob your head along to it. You can’t help but dance along whether you’re in public or not. I admit, I’ve fallen victim to this many, many times!

#7. Wake Me Up

As far as cheesy love songs go, Sheeran has some of the best. "Wake Me Up" is no exception. It’s a very personal song, recounting intimate details of a relationship. His clever play on words makes it unlike other love songs that are on the radio these days.

“I could do without tan on my left hand where my fourth finger meets my knuckle.” I mean, come on!

#6. Drunk

With some depressing lyrics like, “Maybe I’ll get drunk again to feel a little love,” you’d think this song was slow and sad. But it’s not. The song is, surprisingly, one of Sheeran’s more fast paced songs. This was his second single of his first album, and again, helped put him on the map.

Sheeran has a knack for making some pretty memorable music videos too. This one includes getting drunk with his cat at a club.

#5. Tenerife Sea

Sheeran has some of the best love songs. We could have probably made a top 10 list of just those. This song, "Wake Me Up" is no exception.

He compares her eyes to the Tenerife Sea (hence the title) and says she’s all he’ll ever need, while also proclaiming how in love he is during the chorus. What more could you want from a love song?

#4. Little Bird

If you thought Runaway had an infectious beat, wait until you hear "Little Bird." Again, another love song, but it’s different than the others. It’s more upbeat and catchy, while still keeping Sheeran’s unique sense of style.

It’s from his earlier works, included as a bonus song on +. It’s definitely one of his best as well.

#3. Kiss Me

Seeing Sheeran in concert you can fully expected to cry during the show as I did. However, I didn’t think it would be for this song, but it was. I was, in the middle of a crowd of teenage girls, crying my eyes out while singing along.

The song is so breathtaking and beautiful, even more so when you hear it live. As a song written for a close family friend’s wedding, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is played at many weddings in the future.

#2. Thinking Out Loud

Sheeran’s most recent single from X, will certainly be heard at almost every wedding from now until the next greatest love song comes out.

This song is all about the progression of a relationship and how no matter what happens, he’ll love her for the rest of their lives. It’s like it was made for a wedding. The song is just beautiful and the music video is just as great.

Sheeran really has found his niche when it comes to love songs.

#1. Give Me Love

This is, by far, Sheeran’s best song. It has such a great beat to it, and Sheeran’s voice is just fantastic. It starts off slow and builds itself up, doing this multiple times throughout the song until the big build up towards the end.

On the album, it’s a full band with back-up vocals and everything, creating this very big song. With just Sheeran on stage, he can create that exact same feeling, if not more, by himself with his guitar and loop pedal. There are no other words to describe it other than breathtaking.
