It seems like everywhere you turn these days someone is or has made a joke about the under-inflated balls in the scandal known as Deflategate. And today, a joke was made in the court of law by an attorney for former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.

CBSSports reported that defense attorney James Sultan uttered the joke while questioning Massachusetts State Police Trooper Timothy Dowd. The line of questioning was regarding tire pressure and tracks found at the scene of the murder. At one point Sultan asked the witness, “Did you ever receive training in football deflation devices?”
The Patriots are currently being investigated by the NFL after the team was accused of deflating footballs used in the AFC title game.
The defense lawyer later said that the reference was a mistake and when Judge Susan Garsh reminded him about the seriousness of the trial, Sultan apologized.
Also on Friday, USA Today noted that jurors set out on a bus with a police escort to tour the home of Hernandez as well as the crime scene at an industrial park.
One day earlier, Garsh ruled that all trophies and religious items in the athlete’s home needed to be removed from view or covered up.
Hernandez is on trial for the shooting death of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd in July 2013.
