Tim Drummond, bassist with Bob Dylan and Neil Young, dies at 74

Tim Drummond, a well-respected bassist who played with Neil Young and Bob Dylan, has died. He was 74.

The news was confirmed by Rolling Stone, which reported that he died on Saturday. There was no cause of death yet, but the St. Louis County, Missouri coroner's office said there was no trauma.

Drummond began his rise to prominence with Neil Young, playing on 1972’s iconic Harvest album. He continued touring with Young and appeared on every album from On The Beach (1974) to Hawks & Doves (1980). He also worked with Young again in the early 1990s.

Aside from Young, Drummond worked with The Beach Boys, Don Henley, Ry Cooder and even Jewel. He is also recognized for his strong contributions to Dylan’s three gospel album,s Slow Train Coming, Saved and Shot of Love, even getting co-writing credit on the title track to the middle album.

Other legends Drummond worked with includes James Brown, J.J. Cale, John Mayall, Rick Danko and Jack Nitzsche.

Young’s half-sister, Astrid Young, paid tribute to Drummond on Facebook. Producer Craig Leon wrote on Twitter, “One of the best bass players and a great guy. Sad to hear this.”
