Madonna responds to 'Rebel Heart' art criticism by posting even more famous faces with wires

Madonna hit a nerve and she’s not going to stop hitting it, no matter how much social media complains about it. Just after sparking controversy with her Rebel Heart art with the faces of Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela, she has continued to post similar artwork.

Last week, Madonna decided that comparing herself to late historical figures like Mandela and King, along with music icon Bob Marley, was a good idea to promote her new album. The images all feature a wire over their faces and she called them a “#rebelheart.” They were followed by an image of herself, with the caption “Shabbat Shalom from this #rebelheart.”

After those images caused an uproar, Madonna posted another, this time featuring the face of John Lennon behind wire.

“These people are all Rebel Hearts in one way or another from Martin Luther King to Jesus to Nelson Mandela to John Lennon. YES! Lets celebrate them!” Madonna wrote in the caption for the Lennon post. “The world needs more people like them. I hope to one day accomplish. 1 100th of what these Rebel Hearts have accomplished. As I Said in a previous post "I walk in the footsteps of Giants" and i will continue to do so G*D willing. They are my guiding light.”

On Saturday, Madonna posted two more images, showing the late Princess Diana and the late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. A third image had Madonna comparing herself to Joan of Arc.

“None of these #rebelhearts are perfect they are human and come from all walks of life but all have one thing in common. All Freedom Fighters! All Brave! And all have inspired me as an Artist and a Human,” Madonna wrote.

These images aren’t the only controversy Madonna’s new album has faced, and there isn’t even a release date for it yet. Several songs have already been leaked, including 14 on Christmas Eve. That has forced Madonna to release six tracks on iTunes early. The album’s lead single is expected to be “Living For Love.”
