Kevin Spacey shows his musical chops with Billy Joel for 'Piano Man' (Video)

While Billy Joel got the usual parade of music stars to pay tribute when he received the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress in November, he had one surprising guest.

House of Cards star and two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey was on hand and didn’t just talk about how great Joel is. He also picked up a harmonica to play the intro for “Piano Man.” Spacey even sang the first verse for Joel’s most famous song.

The ceremony took place back on Nov. 19 at the DAR Hall in Washington D.C., but the show didn’t air on PBS until Friday night. Joel performed a few songs himself, including “Vienna,” “You May Be Right” and “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song).”

Rolling Stone notes that John Mellencamp was also there to do “Allentown,” while Josh Groban sang “She’s Always A Woman.” LeAnn Rimes, Natalie Maines, Boyz II Men, Gavin DeGraw and Tony Bennett also performed.

Joel was named the latest recipient of the Gershwin prize in July. Other winners include Paul Simon, Paul McCartney and Carole King.

Joel is currently the “entertainment franchise” of Madison Square Garden. His next scheduled show isn’t until September.
