'Jane The Virgin' recap: 'Chapter Eleven'

Jane The Virgin began with a flashback showing how Jane would avoid conflict between her mother and Alba, including a time when they fought and Xo threatened to leave. Jane would write letters as her mom and leave them for Alba to help them drop the fights.

In the present, Jane is asking her mom to let Rafael come for dinner so they can work on their relationship, even though Xo is still not completely on board since she feels the relationship happened so fast. Her mom finally agrees to dinner and Jane calls Rafael to tell him to get ready for dinner as he is busy talking to his stepmom.

Rafael talks to his stepmom, who is still concerned about her husband fleeing to Croatia if he is involved in whatever is going on with the Sin Rostro business. Rafael tells her he will check with the contractor who did renovations for the hotel for any information.

Meanwhile, Nadine and Michael have dinner as they discuss the case. They are still having trouble getting new leads. Michael isn’t happy with his meal and when he makes a joke, she doesn’t laugh and they tease each other before kissing.

Petra wakes up in the middle of the night and wakes her mother, who slept through her watch shift. They are still worried about Milos coming and her mom suggests asking Lachlan for help.

Jane is on the bus with her students giving them a pep talk and thanking them for being good students. Her twin ex-stepsisters give her a present from the class and tell her not to cry. Jane tries not to, until she sees a onesie for the baby. She gets a call from Sister Margaret. at her school, who offers a full time teaching position and tells her she got high scores on her teacher’s evaluations.

Meanwhile, Rogelio is working on a scene where he romances a nun. He kisses his co-star in the scene until he sees Jane is there. He gathers everyone around where he surprises Jane by telling her she is a writer’s intern for The Passions of Santos. Rogelio can tell she’s not too happy and she tells him she was offered a position at school. She is conflicted at the opportunity as she sees images of Rogelio and Sister Margaret telling her why she should pick writing or teaching, respectively. Her father gets her attention and Jane makes a decision to try both.

Jane meets the writers of the show, including head writer Dina Milagro. She asks for Jane’s help on a storyline idea and she is able to figure one out that impresses her and Jane feels butterflies in her stomach. She later tells Rafael the good news. Then, she switches topics to quiz Rafael on information about her mom.

Xiomara and Alba are getting ready for dinner as Xiomara ignores a call from Rogelio. She admits to her mom why she won’t call him back (even though Alba already knows) and her mom tells her to just tell him the truth as Jane and Rafael arrive. Dinner goes well and Rafael says all the right things, until Jane’s decision on interning or teaching comes up and Rafael says he will take care of things financially. Jane, who did not tell him to not offer money, is horrified as her mom begins lecturing Rafael that they can take care of her and they don’t need handouts. After she makes a quip that he didn’t father the baby on purpose, Alba quietly mutters she wants Jane to teach.

Jane and her mom talk about dinner and she assures her mom that she won’t let Rafael take care of everything and she will still work hard. Her mom then admits that she feels like she’d be disloyal to Michael in accepting Jane’s new relationship and alludes that Michael has not moved on. Jane understands, but reminds her mom she can’t treat Rafael badly so Xiomara says she will apologize.

Petra is on her way to get her check when Lachlan stops her. He can tell she is nervous and she ends up admitting she is afraid of Milos finding her and mentions he used to send her yellow tulips. Lachlan offers to transfer to another one of the hotel’s properties so they can escape together and he also offers one of their penthouses to keep her safe.

Rafael sends a text message to Rose about waiting for the contractor. He answers a knock and sees it is Xiomara. They have a talk where Xiomara admits she doesn’t feel he is right for Jane because of his past character actions and because he doesn’t see the world from down below like Jane does. Rafael gets a text from the contractor and asks Xiomara to talk later.

Jane goes to her father’s set to see the scene idea she had put in, but it surprised that instead of a beggar like she suggested, Santos is disguised as a pirate. She asks him if he asked his writers to pretend they liked her idea and she tells him she wants to be seen for her talent so she can make the right choice in career. He tells her to write him a scene so he can see how she does.

Rafael meets with the contractor, who has no idea about a tunnel leading from the recovery suites. When he sees a photo of the bathroom in question, he sees that the work there is different from what he has completed. Rafael is heading back to his car when a man comes up and says he know who did that bathroom and will give his information for a fee.

Jane talks to Nicholas, Rogelio’s assistant who is also an actor. He gives her advice on how to connect with her character to write a scene. She goes to the stage where she writes and also feels butterflies again.

At her house, Alba is helping Xiomara get ready for a date with Rogelio, who she lets inside. He is dressed up, whereas Xiomara is wearing sweats and a sweater. Rogelio tries to be romantic, but she is avoiding his advances to keep her promise to God. They have pizza together and Xiomara goes to get more wine. However, Rogelio surprises her and reminds her of when they met before they begin to passionately kiss. But as things are heating up, she sees an image of her mom in bed with them and orders him to leave.

Xiomara and her mom talk later and she admits to Alba that she didn’t tell him why she was waiting because she likes him. She is afraid he won’t be interested if he finds out. Alba tells her that if that’s the case, she deserves better and that he is showing her respect if she thinks her daughter is special enough to wait.

Petra and Lachlan kiss as she thanks him for helping them. Her mom surprises them with a complaint about the windows and as he leaves, Petra tells her mom to be nice. Magda doesn’t trust him.

Jane’s father reads what she wrote and she is desparate for approval. However, he doesn’t like the lines said by the pirates and he doesn’t feel the passion. She is stung, but understands she did ask for the truth. He tells her that she just has to work at her skill.

Jane has a conversation on the phone with Rafael and she is disheartened that his meeting with her mom didn’t go so well. She admits to him she always wanted to fix things with her family and he reminds her that things take time.

After hanging up, Rafael meets with the man whose name he was given. But instead of being given an answer, he tells Rafael to go away and then makes a phone call. Michael is there taking pictures as this happens.

As Jane is driving and trying not to fall asleep, Michael goes to write the number from the cell phone, but he is caught by the man as Jane gets into a fender bender.

Jane is taken to the hospital so she can have the baby checked out. Rafael tells her she is taking on too much and Xiomara agrees. The doctor tells her the baby is kicking and Jane realizes they were the butterflies she had been feeling. She has her mom and Rafael feel.

Meanwhile, Nadine is with Michael in the hospital and is not happy he was following Rafael. He tells her that the number on the phone was a plastic surgeon and he feels he is going somewhere with the investigation. Michael also promises he is not doing this because of Jane.

Xiomara tells Rogelio Jane and the baby are fine and when she hugs him without letting their pelvis’ touch, she admits to him about her chastity. He assures her he won’t leave.

Petra is in the bathtub and she goes under the water, only to come back up and see yellow tulips on the table.

Jane gets a call on her phone and she ends up going to Michael’s room because she is his emergency contact. He thinks them being in the hospital together is a sign. But she tells him that she sees herself with Rafael. Nadine is outside the window and when she sees the look on Michael’s face, without knowing the conversation, she calls their boss to tell him that Michael disobeyed orders to stay away from Rafael.

Xiomara is in a good mood the next day and tells her mom that Rogelio was willing to wait. But then Alba ends up quoting exactly what her daughter said in the hospital. Alba says she will write an apology letter to Xiomara, which confuses her until Jane comes in and changes the subject to say she accepted the teaching job. Xiomara tells her mom she never wrote letters and they look at Jane as she says, “It was for a good cause.”

Jane is walking through the set to say goodbye when Dina stops her to tell her that she enjoyed her scene, which Nick had given her. She says she knows good writing and to keep working hard.

As Petra tells Lachlan how worried she is, we see in a flashback he is the one who put the tulips on the table.

Jane goes to see her father to tell her what Dina said and that she decided to stay. He tells her it is tough in their business and she needs to believe in who she is. As this is happening, Nicholas talks to Dina and says of Jane staying that “Rogelio won’t know what hit him” as they begin to kiss.
