New York Yankees broadcaster John Sterling is one of the hundreds of people who lost their homes in a massive fire at a New Jersey apartment complex on Wednesday.

CNN reported that the multi-alarm fire, which broke out just before 4:30 p.m. at the Edgewater apartment complex, displaced around 500 people.
“I walked to the building and smelled smoke and I went out to my floor where my apartment is, and the smoke was so bad I couldn’t see, and I thought, ‘Hey, we’d better get out of here,'” Sterling told CBS2.
The 76-year-old has been the play-by-play radio announcer for the Bronx Bombers since 1989.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries, but none of the residents were injured and everyone was accounted for. A total of 240 apartments were destroyed.

"Our hearts go out to everyone who was affected by this - it was a long and challenging night," Edgewater Mayor Michael McPartland said during a Thursday morning news conference.
He added that the blaze has since been contained.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
