Elvis Presley would’ve celebrated his 80th birthday this week had he still been alive, and now his first-ever recording has been auctioned off.

His song “My Happiness,” which is in its original condition, sold for $300,000 on Thursday night.
The AP reports the auction was held in Graceland on his would-be birthday. The buyer’s identity has not been released publicly.

Presley recorded “My Happiness” for $4 at Sun Records in Memphis in 1953. The studio was ran by Sam Phillips. It’s been reported Presley left the studio with the record and took it to his friend Ed Leeks’ home, who held on to it for 60 years, because he didn’t have a record player at his own home at the time.
When Leeks’ niece Lorisa Hilburn inherited it, she contacted Graceland to sell it at auction and the rest is history.
Bidding for the record started a $50,000 and it actually sold for $240,000, but there is a $60,000 fee that goes to Graceland.
