Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus have revealed Tom DeLonge has quit the band and that Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio will be filling in for him for their appearance at the Musink Festival. From there it got pretty confusing, as DeLonge claimed he did not quit, causing the remaining band members to do a candid interview explaining their side.
After Barker and Hoppus’ initital statement, DeLonge posted the following message on Instagram:
“To all the fans, I never quit the band. I actually was ona phone call about a blink 182 event for New York City at the time all these weird press releases startedcoming in... Apparently those releases were 'sanctioned' from the band. Are we dysfunctional- yes. But, Christ..... #Awkward #BabyBackRibs
As a response, Barker and Hoppus did an interview with Rolling Stone and called DeLonge “ungrateful,” saying they’ve been trying to make a new Blink-182 record for the past two years.
“It feels humiliating to be in a band where you have to be apologizing for one person all the time. That's how it's felt for a long time,” Hoppus said.
They also suggest he’s “embarrassed” and “in shock” that they are now exposing his lack of desire to record with the band and that’s why he’s denying he quit.
They maintain, however, that they were all set to start recording on Jan. 5 after signing a new record deal on Christmas Eve but a few days later they were informed by DeLonge’s manager, “Tom is out indefinitely. For the foreseeable future, Tom is done."
DeLonge then posted a lengthy post to his Facebook page on Tuesday, trying to explain his side of the story.
