Another great year for television is over and 2015 promises to be just as great. The networks still have new midseason shows to debut and the cable networks will be upping their game, again.
2015 will have new shows from acclaimed creators like Vince Gilligan and Tina Fey. There will be chances for movie stars to establish a foothold on television once again. We may finally see even more zombies taking over the world. There will also be major changes in the talk show landscape. Another Marvel character will be sweeping onto the small screen.
Next year will also see the end of two great series. The second half of Mad Men’s final season will air on AMC, while NBC will run through the final season of Parks and Recreation. However, neither are on this list since we’re just focusing on completely new shows.
So, without any further delay, let’s take a look at 10 (hopefully) cool shows we can’t wait for in the new year.

[new page = Last Man on Earth]
In The Last Man on Earth (Fox, March 1), former Saturday Night Live star Will Forte plays... well... the last man on earth. Considering that the show is produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the same guys behind The LEGO Movie and 22 Jump Street, it promises to be a hilarious single-camera sitcom.
Set in 2022, the earth’s population has been mysteriously wiped out, leaving Forte alone. There are a few others stars in the series though, including Mad Men’s January Jones.
[new page = Empire]
Empire (Fox, Jan. 7) is another midseason show for Fox. This one finds Terrence Howard as the head of the titular record label. He’s struggling to decide which one of his sons should be his successor, but when his ex-wife gets out of prison, it throws his plans for a loop. His ex-wife is played by Taraji P. Henson, who was last seen on Person of Interest.
This one has a high pedigree behind the scenes. Lee Daniels is the director on the pilot and will be producing the series. Danny Strong, who wrote Daniels’ The Butler, is his collaborator here.
[new page = The Odd Couple]
It’s sort of hard to get excited about a remake of one of the most beloved sitcoms ever made, but CBS’ The Odd Couple (CBS, Feb. 19) reboot does have the advantage of having an interesting pairing. Friends’ Matthew Perry is trying again to find a successful series and playing the slob this time might help him out. He will butt heads with Reno 911!’s Thomas Lennon.
CBS doesn’t have a clip up yet, but here’s the trailer for Perry’s last failed series, NBC’s Go On.
[new page = Togetherness]
Mark Duplass and his brother, Jay Duplass, are bringing their indie filmmaking skills to television with Togetherness (HBO, Jan. 11). Yes, Mark Duplass is a star on FX’s The League, but this one is going to have a very different tone. Amanda Peet is also in this one, so that’s another reason to look forward to it.
[new page = Agent Carter]
While Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is on hiatus, Agent Carter (ABC, Jan. 6) is swinging into action. The series will focus on Agent Peggy Carter’s adventures after Captain America: The First Avenger. Hayley Atwell is reprising her role from the films and Joe Russo will direct one of the first episodes.
[new page = Battle Creek]
Battle Creek (CBS, March 1) is a collaboration between Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan and House’s David Shore. Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters play detectives who are stuck working together, even though they don’t like each other. That sounds like the plot for countless other cop shows, but Gilligan and Shore should bring something more unique to the table.
[new page = Better Call Saul]
Gilligan will be back with not one, but two shows next season. The Breaking Bad creator’s other new show is Better Call Saul (AMC, Feb. 8), a prequel to Breaking Bad. Anyone who enjoys Bob Odenkirk (including me) has to be excited about the prospect of him headlining a series.
[new page = Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt]
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt (Netflix) is Tina Fey’s latest series and stars Ellie Kemper (The Office, Bridesmaids). It was originally supposed to be an NBC series, but for some inexplicable reason, the network let Netflix have it. The streaming service has put in a two-season order. Kemper plays a woman escaped a cult and is now living in New York.
[new page = Rock and Roll with Marty and Mick]
Hopefully, by the time it airs, Untitled Rock ‘n’ Roll Project (HBO) has a better title. Until then, that’s what we’re stuck with. HBO officially picked up the series earlier this month. It stars Bobby Cannavale as the head of a record label in the 1970s who is faced with a sudden crisis. Martin Scorsese is directing the pilot and Mick Jagger is among the producers.
But that’s not all! The series also features an amazing supporting cast with Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Juno Temple, Andrew Dice Clay, Max Casella, Ato Essandoh, James Jagger, Brigitte Sorensen, P.J. Byrne, J.C. Mackenzie, Bo Dietl, Armen Garo, Robert Funaro and Joe Caniano.
[new page = Stephen Colbert]
The most anticipated show of 2015 has to be a talk show, surprisingly.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (CBS, start date not set) will be a really strange experience. Many don’t know a world without David Letterman on The Late Show and many don’t want to know a world without The Colbert Report. However, we will be living in a world where these are both realities soon. Colbert has an incredibly high bar to live up to and hopefully, Colbert is just as good without his Report character as he is with it.
