Philosopher Matthew McConaughey returns in new Lincoln car ads (Video)

Matthew McConaughey, Hollywood philosopher, is back in new Lincoln car commercials, all directed by Drive’s Nicolas Winding Refn again. McConaughey has returned to selling the Lincoln MKZ.

“It’s not about hugging trees. It’s not about being wasteful either,” McConaughey says, with his famous drawl, in the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid spot. “You just gotta find that balance, where taking care of yourself is more just yourself. That’s the sweet spot.”

In a short 14-second spot, McCaughey is sitting at a diner, watching the rain. As Variety points out, it was shot at Blair’s in Los Angeles.

McConaughey signed on to star in Lincoln ads in August and the first wave was posted in September. The commercials, which built on the detective character he played to perfection in True Detective, have been parodied countless times since. Jim Carrey did a pretty good job on Saturday Night Live.

McConaughey was just seen on the big screen in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and won an Oscar earlier this year for Dallas Buyers Club. He was nominated for an Emmy for True Detective.
