Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a serious car accident on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Newton’s vehicle was involved in the wreck around 12:30 p.m. and that the 25-year-old was transported by ambulance to a local hospital around 12:50 p.m.
Contrary to several media reports claiming the quarterback was injured, the NFL Network has reported that Newton was not seriously injured and only taken to the hospital as a precaution. Police sources have also said that he was uninjured.

The initial report said that a car crashed and overturned on the Church Street bridge over I-277 and paramedics were on the scene. A second vehicle also involved in the crash was blocking the road near Hill Street. The quarterback was photographed at the scene flashing a smile before being placed on a stretcher and put in the back of an ambulance.

Newton’s Panthers routed the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome on Sunday winning the game with a score of 41-10. The team now sits in third place in a weak NFC South at 4-8-1 and still has a realistic shot at making the playoffs.
