Jessie J's royalties for Miley Cyrus' 2009 hit 'Party in the U.S.A.' paid her rent for over 3 years

Jessie J has a successful solo career now, but the “Bang Bang” singer reveals how her ties to Miley Cyrus paid her bills for over three years.

She told Glamour UK that the most lucrative part of the music business for her has been songwriting. She helped pen Cyrus’ song “Party in the U.S.A” and it really worked out.

"You've got to write songs, that's where the money is, being an artist. ‘Party In The USA’ paid my rent for, like, three years," she said about the 2009 song. “Actually it was way longer than that. That's where I get most of my money. I write songs. I'm a singer. I love endorsements and stuff, but that's all added on.”

Jessie J also admitted she pitched the song to her label for herself, but they passed on it, E! Online reports.

"You know what's more weird though, is that you're not actually there when they record it," she said. "I recorded 'Party In The U.S.A.,' played it for the label but they didn't think it was right for me. So they pitched it and two weeks later it was number one in six countries."

In addition to making money from Cyrus’ song, she has written for “Fine China” singer Chris Brown.
