J. Cole knocks Taylor Swift off the Billboard 200 throne with new album

J. Cole stormed to the top of the Billboard 200 album chart with 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Remarkably, it means that all three of his albums have reached the top position.

2014 Forest Hills Drive moved 375,000 units during the week that ended on Dec. 14, according to Nielsen Music stats for Billboard. That number includes streams and total digital track sales.

The album actually sold 354,000 copies, so it also topped the Top Album Sales Chart easily. It is the fifth-best sales week for any album this year and it is the best sales week for a hip-hop album since Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2 in November 2013.

Taylor Swift, whose 1989 topped the chart last week, slid to No. 2 with 324,000 total units (278,000 copies sold). That’s up 18 percent in total units (and up 21 percent in copies sold).

That’s Christmas To Me from Pentatonix came in at No. 3 with 218,000 units. Carrie Underwood came in No. 4 with Greatest Hits: Decade #1, which scored 103,000 units. It is her fifth-straight Top 5 debut. AC/DC’s Rock or Bust fell to No. 5 with 94,000 units.

The rest of the Top 10 features: K. Michelle’s Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? (88,000 units); One Direction’s Four (82,000); In The Lonely Hour by Sam Smith (81,000); Ed Sheeran’s X (65,000); and Man Against Machine by Garth Brooks (62,000).
