Employees of fast food restaurants nationwide protesting for higher pay

Fast food workers will walk out in cities around the country on Thursday in protests for better payment.

Employees of fast food places are performing walk-outs primarily for protesting for a larger minimum wage payment, according to CBS Minnesota. Another issue workers are also demonstrating for is the ability to gain a union. No specific organizers were mentioned.

TV Station KSDK in Missouri reported that in St. Louis, fast food employees are demanding a $15 an hour minimum wage. It was argued by critics that the protests were supported by the unions, and that higher wages would hurt job creation. A protest inside a Hardees restaurant in St. Louis began by 6:00 a.m before police came and the protesters went outside of the restaurant.

CBS Minnesota reported that workers at a McDonalds in Minneapolis protested the issue, but their protests ended before 8:00 a.m.

Another McDonalds in San Diego, California was supposed to protest also by 6:00 a.m, according to the Times of San Diego. Employees even arranged for a rally on the issue, as well as a march in the city’s downtown area. Cities like San Francisco and Seattle accepted minimum wage increases of $15.
