David Ortiz explains why he hasn't talked to Alex Rodriguez in a year

Baseball players Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz once displayed a close friendship, but new reports now say the two men are not on speaking terms.

According to the New York Post, Ortiz became uset upon hearing that a lawyer for Rodriguez did an interview on a radio show for ESPN back in January, and claimed certain players had used steroids, or PED. Ortiz said, “I’m not going to start naming all the other players, but some of them are God-like in Boston right now, and people seem to forget that.”

While Rodriguez’s lawyer Joe Tacopina went on to clarify the player in question was not Ortiz himself, it still left a bitter taste. Since the incident, Ortiz also confirmed to the New York Post that he hasn’t “talked to him since.”

Fox Sports reported that Rodriguez will be joining the New York Yankees for the 2015 season, so there could be a chance for the two men to have a reconciliation if they meet on the field or during a spring training match.

When asked on whether it was likely Rodriguez would still be able to play the game, Ortiz also said, “We’re about to find out. I’ve seen players taking a year off and it’s fine, you get away with it, but at our age, taking a year off is not the easiest thing for you to come back and be at the highest level when the last year he played (2013) wasn’t all there because of injury, so we’ll see what happens.”

As for the Red Sox, Ortiz also said he is “hopeful” their team will make its way back to the top of the All-Star Eastern Division, including with the signing of free agents Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez.
