Authorities in Philadelphia arrested a man in connection with the shooting death of Los Angeles Lakers guard Wayne Ellington Jr.’s father last month.

The Philadelphia Inquirer noted that Carl White, 34, was taken into custody by detectives and the Homicide Task Force on Thursday morning.
As previously reported, the father of the basketball player he shares the same name with was found shot to death in the driver’s seat of his car on Nov. 9.
Police responded to the scene in the Germantown section of the city after a report of a car accident. Ellington Sr.’s car apparently struck two parked cars. Arriving officers found the 57-year-old slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital and died several hours later.
Ellington Jr. learned of his father’s death after the Lakers defeated the Charlotte Hornets that evening and was placed on leave to grieve with his family.
A law enforcement source said that at this time, investigators do not have a motive for the shooting.
