John Mayer is no stranger to the media spotlight. After a public relationship and breakup with Katy Perry and a rumored relationship with country-pop darling Taylor Swift, Mayer’s life and choices have made headlines on more than one occasion. In the end, Mayer stays on top of the charts with his catchy guitar riffs and memorable lyrics. However, even one of the top guitarists in the industry today has some songs that aren't that great.

Mayer made himself a household name when he released his album Room for Squares back in 2001. Since that release, and many chart-topping hits later, Mayer has proven that he is as much a guitar player as he is a singer-songwriter.

10. Slow Dancing in a Burning Room
Mayer is known for his slower love songs, but this song seems to drag at times and is longer than it needs to be. “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” did showcase his musical style and how smart Mayer is when it comes to pairing lyrics with guitar melodies, but this song seemed to fall short.

9. Who You Love ft. Katy Perry
Mayer has a few songs that feature now ex-girlfriends, and even though the chemistry between him and Katy Perry was clear, it didn’t come across in this song. This song is better left in the past.
[new page= Queen of California]
8. Queen of California
“Queen of California” was featured on Mayer’s 2013 release, which had a heavy country influence. It was hard for fans to adjust to such a sharp genre switch.
[new page= Shadow Days]
7. Shadow Days
“Shadow Days” was one of the early singles off of Mayer’s album Born and Raised. The album featured Mayer really exploring with different influences musically, especially country. His rock ‘n’ roll natural talent didn’t come across, and this single left something to be desired.
[new page=Paper Doll]
6. Paper Doll
“Paper Doll” was featured on Paradise Valley but once again felt bogged down over production and didn’t highlight Mayer’s natural talent. Mayer shines when it is just himself and a guitar, but this song feels overworked and overplayed.
[new page= Half of My Heart]
5. Half of My Heart
It was clear when Taylor Swift released the song “Dear John” that everyone knew about whom she was talking. After that public display of feelings, it is hard for fans to go back and listen to Mayer and Swift singing together on this track. The song itself complements both musically, but knowing what fans know now, it seems out of place.
[new page= Bigger Than My Body]
4. Bigger Than My Body
Normally, Mayer’s lyrics are the focal point of his songs and they stand out, but “Bigger Than My Body” felt like he was just trying too hard.
[new page= Clarity]
3. Clarity
“Clarity” was the first song off of his 2008 release Heavier Things and was not the strongest track off that album. As the album went on, the tracks got better and felt more worked out by Mayer. “Clarity” at times felt rushed and over produced.
[new page= Heartbreak Warfare]
2. Heartbreak Warfare
“Heartbreak Warfare” was Mayer’s take on a breakup song, and it just felt like a breakup itself, slow and painful and not worth reliving. It showed off his musical range once again and ability to tell a story through his lyrics; it just wasn’t a story fans wanted to hear.
[new page=Your Body Is a Wonderland]
1. Your Body Is a Wonderland
“Your Body Is a Wonderland” is one of Mayer’s biggest hits, but the lyrics leave something to be desired on this single. The beat and guitar riffs shined on the song, but the lyrics seemed far-fetched and at times silly.
