Top 10 More Great War Movies for Veterans Day

Tuesday is Veterans Day, celebrating the hard work and sacrifice from our men and women serving in the military. It's on November 11 to make sure we don't forget about the armistice that ended World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

Filmmakers have always been fascinated by war. From the great days of the silent era, war movies have taken audiences to the battlefield. Hollywood's relationship with war has differed over the years. Following World War I, there was a fascination with the experiences of the average soldier. During World War II, Hollywood became a propaganda machine, often glamorizing the fighting and expanding the role of Americans in battle.

From Vietnam on, filmmakers have used war movies to explore its impact on the human psyche. Men killing men should not come easily. Enemies shouldn't be treated as completely blackhearted individuals without personalities.

While some of these picks are the usual suspects, there are some war movies you won’t find here. In July, to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the war, I counted down the Top 10 World War I Movies. Also, since Veterans Day honors the American military, I’m focusing on films where American soldiers have key roles.

So, in honor of Veterans Day, here are 10 more great war movies to check out.
