Selena Gomez talked candidly for the first time about her relationship with Justin Bieber following the release of her single “The Heart Wants What it Wants,” which is about their on-again, off-again relationship.
Gomez is aware that these feelings she has are “universal” and she’s glad to be the voice for so many young girls out there.
She told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on Thursday, "I think the biggest problem I had this year—even with [Bieber] and on his side—is identity. I was trying to figure out what I'm doing, and that was the first time I was constantly being kicked down for doing that.”
Gomez said Bieber thinks the a video is “beautiful” and admits he was jealous of the guy in the video with her.
"I support him. I think I always will. I'm upset when he's upset, I'm happy when he's happy. I don't want anything bad ever happen to him. It hurts me. That's all," she said, E! Online reports. "I can't help but get a little emotional because I'm happy. I'm happy that I'm in this place now I think all of this has made me better, made me stronger."
Gomez has been open about her struggles with identity in the past, even checking into a rehab center briefly this past year.
