Oscar Isaac set to play Apocalypse in new 'X-Men' film

Apocalypse is finally cast, and his role will be played by Oscar Isaac.

Isaac will play the infamous Marvel villain in X-Men: Apocalypse, according to The Wrap. He was the top choice to play the villain, although other actors including Idris Elba were being thought to play the role. Isaac is also playing a protagonist in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the new X-Men film’s story would occur in the 80s era. Returning stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence will continue to play Magneto, Charles Xavier, and Mystique.

Apocalypse is said by The Wrap to be the first person in the X-Men universe ever to have the gene that allows mutants to have powers. Since he was born a long time ago, he’s also a highly powerful mutant with a desire to rule the world. Aside from Isaac’s casting, other actors are being reviewed to see who could play younger versions of Jean Grey and Cyclops.

EW also reported that Bryan Singer is returning to direct X-Men: Apocalypse, which is looking to come out on May 27, 2016.
