Niell Blomkamp's 'Chappie' trailer premieres, stars Hugh Jackman

Niell Blomkamp’s new robot film Chappie has now been revealed on the Internet.

The trailer for the District 9 and Elysium director’s next science fiction film has been released online by Sony Pictures, according to MovieWeb. The film stars Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley, among other actors.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Copley, who had roles in Blomkamp’s two previous feature films, plays the titular robot Chappie. Patel plays the scientist who creates the robot, while Jackman plays an antagonist campaigning against the creation of the robot and artificial intelligence.

The Celebrity Cafe previously reported that the film was about Chappie and his development by two criminals after they kidnap him upon his creation. The film is based off of one of Blomkamp's short films; Tetra Vaal.

EW also reported that the character of Chappie in the film was programmed for artistic endeavors, such as painting and poetry. His metallic frame also housed a soft personality, all of which can be seen in the trailer.

The official Facebook page for Chappie said the film will be released in 2015.
