Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed he’s engaged to theater director Sophie Hunter, making the announcement the old school way in the marriages section of the UK’s The Times newspaper.
"The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katherine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London," the announcement, published on Wednesday, reads.
The Sherlock star, 38, also confirmed the happy news through his rep to the Daily News, saying, "I am delighted to confirm this morning's announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are engaged.”
The 36-year-old Hunter is also an actress. The two reportedly met back in 2009 on the set of Burlesque Fairytales. Cumberbatch was in a nearly 10-year relationship at the time, however, as he was dating screenwriter Olivia Poulet up until 2010.
The couple’s latest public appearance was at the French Open in June. No word yet on a date for the wedding.
