Apple plans to relaunch Beats Music service in March (Report)

Apple is finally expected to make iOS users have the Beats Music streaming app. The service will reportedly re-launch in March, when a new version of iOS is expected and will be bundled with the operating system update.

News of the plan was first reported by the Financial Times. As Billboard notes, it isn’t a completely surprising move, since many analysts expected Apple to eventually force iPhone or iPad users to have the app pre-downloaded. Indeed, many were surprised that the app wasn’t pre-downloaded when the iPhone 6 launched.

After weeks of rumors, Apple finally confirmed in late May that it acquired Beats Music and Beats Electronics, the companies founded by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. The tech giant spent $3 billion, making Beats its largest acquisition ever.

It was also noted by many that Apple didn’t heavily publicize Beats, which only lead to a small number of subscribers. Apple was probably looking for an opportunity like this to remind Apple users that it owns Beats.

There’s no word on if Beats Music will be a paid-only service or if users will be able to use it for free with ads, like Spotify.
