Adrian Peterson says he won't use switch to discipline children again

Suspended running back Adrian Peterson said in an interview Thursday that he will not use a switch to discipline his children anymore.

In the interview with USA Today Sports, Peterson said that he called his four-year-old son, who he had not spoken to in months, and plans to see him soon.

"When he got on the phone, he said, 'Hey Dad,'" Peterson recalled. "I was like, 'Hey buddy, how you doing?' 'I'm doing OK.' I was like, 'I love you.' He was like, 'I love you, too, Dad. Can I come over to your house?' "

The 29-year-old also said that loves his children and would never use a switch again to discipline any of them.

His son was at the center of a September indictment in which Peterson was charged with child abuse for injuring the boy with a switch. He plead guilty and reached a deal with Texas prosecutors on Nov. 4.

After the legal proceedings concluded, the athlete was suspended by the NFL for the remainder of the season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. It’s a move that many have described as an attempt for Commissioner Roger Goodell to reestablish disciplinary control after he admittedly dropped the ball in the Ray Rice case.

The NFL Players Association has appealed Peterson’s suspension.
