On Monday, August 11, 2014, great actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead in his home. The news has shocked the public. Williams had a history of substance abuse, and had recently been battling depression. Williams was an iconic man, whose roles throughout the past several decades left him not only a strong symbol of many people’s childhoods, but as a father figure among a sea of celebrities. His numerous awards, (including an Academy Award, Emmy’s, SAG Awards, Golden Globes, and Grammy’s,) show his talent in his various mediums and endeavors. Through his charity works, interviews, and numerous roles and standup, Williams left a strong impression on the world. His encouraging smile and natural finesse for comedy was able to transcend the screen and leave a fan with a warmth and reassurance that was unsurpassed by any other.
While this is a time of grieving for family, friends, and fans, it is also important to think fondly on the legacy he has left. In honor of his passing, I would like to view not only a few of Williams former roles, but more importantly the lessons and impressions that they and he left the world with.
It’s with a heavy heart that we bid Robin Williams with a final “O Captain! My Captain!”
However, as was apparent by his values, Williams would surely want us to focus on the positive, and laugh.
