TV Ratings: 'Modern Family' up, 'American Idol' continues fall

Though Fox won Wednesday night, American Idol continues to fall in the ratings, while Modern Family was up with slightly boosted ratings.

With a new series low, Idol fell to a 2.1 in the advertiser-important 18-49 demographic and 9.2 million viewers for Fox, reports HitFix. The singing competition continues to help win Wednesday nights, but is providing diminishing returns with every showing.

ABC came second with a 1.8 in the demo and 6.11 million viewers. The Middle was down slightly to a 1.9 in the demo, while Suburgatory tumbled to a 1.4 demo rating. Modern Family was up for the night to a 3.5 in the demo, while Mixology earned back what viewers it lost last week up to a 1.7 in the key demo.

CBS aired mostly encores for the night and averaged a 1.7in the demo, but much stronger 8.2 million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Survivor was a new episode and fell to a 2.3 in the 18-49 demo.

NBC struggled airing mostly encores and the dud of a special Prince Harry's South Pole Heroes managing only a 0.8 in the demo. The peacock network averaged 3.4 million viewers and a 0.8 in the demo.

The CW actually tied with NBC in the demo with 0.8, but had slightly less viewers with 2.4 million. Arrow improved on the night to a 0.9 in the demo as The 100 slipped from its premiere to a 0.9 demo rating.
