New England Patriots sign Brandon LaFell to three-year contract

The New England Patriots continued to upgrade their receiving corps, but this time they sought help from other teams. They signed Brandon LaFell away from the Carolina Panthers.

According to NFL, LaFell's new contract is for three years and worth $11 million.

LaFell never posted impressive numbers in Carolina, but he has gained experience as a starter since being drafted by the Panthers in the third round of the 2010 draft. He posted career-highs in 2013 with 49 catches and 627 yards with five touchdown receptions as reported by ESPN.

LaFell has caught at least 600 yards in his past three seasons, and he is expected to get close to 1,000 and be a red-zone threat with Tom Brady as his quarterback.

This marks the second wide receiver free-agent signing for the Patriots on Saturday. Julian Edelman was brought back by the Patriots before they signed LaFell. The Panthers have now lost three receivers in LaFell, Steve Smith and Ted Ginn. Smith and Ginn left for the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals respectively.
