The New England Patriots made the cornerback position a team strength by signing Brandon Browner, who departed from the Seattle Seahawks. He joins Darrelle Revis to form a fearsome duo.
According to CBS Sports, Browner signed a three-year contract with the Patriots for $17.5 million. However, he will be forced to sit out the first four games of the 2014 season for violating the substance abuse policy.
Browner also sat out eight games of the 2013 season. He finished with 19 tackles and one interception, according to ESPN.
Browner has emerged as a ball hawk since entering the league, logging six interceptions in 2011 and three in 2012. He has also become well-known for his physical style of play with his 220-pound frame.
The Patriots signing Browner gives them a lot of depth at the corner position despite losing Aqib Talib to the Denver Broncos. Logan Ryan, Alfonzo Dennard and Kyle Arrington are also serviceable cornerbacks.
Despite the Broncos' high-profile free agent signings, the Patriots figure to be a Super Bowl threat with an improved defense and quarterback Tom Brady returning for another season.
