Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith revealed that the team is open to drafting a quarterback in the first round of the NFL draft.
This year's quarterback draft class is deep, so the Buccaneers will likely have an opportunity to draft a franchise quarterback since they hold the seventh overall pick. Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, UCF's Blake Bortles, Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater and Fresno State's Derek Carr are all expected to be taken early in the draft.
According to ESPN, Smith hinted that the Buccaneers may add a veteran quarterback to compete with incumbent Mike Glennon, who started 13 games in Tampa Bay last season. This may be the case even if a quarterback is selected in the draft.
Glennon went 4-9 as the Buccaneers' starter as reported by NFL. He and Mike Kafka are currently the only quarterbacks on the Buccaneers' roster, but Smith said he wants to go into training camp with four quarterbacks, making a veteran signing likely.
