The dispute between Casey Kasem's children and their stepmother over access to their ill father seems to be mostly over.
An attorney for one of Kasem’s children, Julie, withdrew her request for legal control of her father’s health as part of a visitation agreement. "It's been resolved," Julie's attorney Andrew Katzenstein told People. "We're glad the case was able to settle."
Attorney for stepmom Jean Kasem, Charles Kreindler, said in a statement: "Jeannie is very happy that the court proceeding has been dismissed and that a settlement agreement has been reached with regard to visitation.” The couple are about to celebrate a 34th wedding anniversary “and [Kasem’s] care, dignity, well-being and happiness are of primary importance."
Kasem's three children had claimed the Jean had stopped allowing them access to their father. Jean countered that because of some family drama, visits with their dad would be "intolerable and unpleasant" for the bedridden 81-year-old. A court-ordered doctor, however, determined Kasem wanted visits from his children.
The hospitalized TV host has advanced Parkinson's disease.
"For me, this matter is over with," Mike Kasem said according to TV Guide. However,Troy Martin, Kerri Kasem’s attorney, clarified that the settlement reached in court only applies to Julie and Mike.
Kerri and her attorney think the “visitation terms are too restrictive" and are working on what their next step will be.
