In a court hearing involving celebrity chef Nigella Lawson’s two assistants, Italian sisters Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo, defrauding her ex-husband Charles Saatchi, they’re alleging Lawson used cocaine, marijuana and prescription pills every day and hid it from Saatchi.
The Grillo sisters spent £300,000 of Saatchi’s money on vacations, designer clothes and more, but they allege they had an “understanding” with Lawson that they could spend the money if they keep her drug habit a secret.
According to The Telegraph, Francesca and Elisabetta worked with Lawson for over a decade.
A lawyer for Elisabetta, 32, said “In a nutshell we submit that she had a guilty secret from her husband, her then husband. She did not want him to know of her use of cocaine and that is highly relevant to the defence case. The defendants will maintain that they were fully aware of her illicit drug use and she essentially would consent to their expenditure on the understanding that there would be no disclosure to her husband of her usage.”
Lawyers for the sisters also showed the court an e-mail that Saatchi wrote, which said "Now the Grillos will get off on the basis that you were off your head on drugs and you allowed the sisters to spend whatever they liked, and yes, I believe every word the Grillos said."
Lawson will now be cross-examined on her alleged drug use. Both she and Saatch filed for divorce in July after a public fight in London in May.
