Bud Light and MySpace joined forces for the first 50/50/1 concert. That’s right: 50 states, 50 concerts, all on one night! New York and Irving Plaza had the privilege of hosting the amazing and talented Dierks Bentley.
The venue was packed with eager country fans decked out in their cowboy boots, plaid shirts, cowboy hats, “little white tank tops” and trucker hats on the likes of males and females. Bud light cans were easily seen in one hand with cameras or cellphones in the other ready to record.
If you were one of the lucky people to be able to attend this concert, then do just that: consider yourself lucky. The evening started with a small set by three time Grammy nominee songwriter Chris Stapleton. He co-wrote, along with Chris DuBois, and Jace Everett, “Your man” that was recorded by Josh Turner, to become a number one single.
I believe Stapleton exudes his raw emotion and puts it all out there on the table when he’s up there playing his guitar and singing his songs. It radiates through you and almost puts you in a sort of feel good trance. Listening to him perform “Sometimes I Cry” Thursday night had me almost wiping away nearly formed tears in the corners of my eyes. He puts out what he feels and you take on that own emotion as your own. There are very few and far between artists that can accomplish just that. Stapleton’s first single, “What Are You Listening To?” was a soulful country song. Heartache and pain mixed passion and yearning. If you haven’t done so already, download his new single and remember his name. This is a man I am sure we will be seeing for years to come. Be sure to check out his website at where an iTunes link is set up to download his single. Sign up for his newsletter to keep tabs on his success, future tour dates and release of his first album.
Whether Bentley is performing in front of 100, 1000, or 10,000 fans, he puts it all out on the table for you. Bentley gets the crowd going with his upbeat, high energy songs like “Tip it on Back," “5-1-5-0," and “Lot of Leavin’ Left to Do." With a flip of a switch, he can slow it down and have the ladies swooning and swaying with his songs “Come a little closer” and “Settle for a Slowdown."
Bentley invited Stapleton back on stage to perform “Fallin for You” from his 2010 album Up on the Ridge. It would not be complete without singing that album’s title song as well. Bentley left nothing out in this concert. His classics - “Every mile a memory," “Feel That Fire” and “How I’m Doing” - were also included in his set list. New songs “Bourbon in Kentucky” and “Hold On” were happily welcomed by the crowd of fans in the audience.
Bentley is fun and engaging with his fellow bandmates and the fans. Between the many nicknames of his bandmates, to telling the story of Dan Hochhalter, who plays the Fiddle, deciding to go bike riding during a thunderstorm and fell and injured his arm and some fingers just a day before the show. Bentley shared his feeling of “not having a home state anymore” and that he has “a home country and it’s The United States of America and it kicks a lot of ass!” It was the perfect bridge into the song “Home” from his 2011 album Home.
As with any show or performance of Bentley, you leave wanting more. You can never have your fill of this country rocker. He’s a simple guy lighting the stage on fire each and every time he steps onto it. If you haven’t heard of Bentley, I encourage you to climb out from under the rock you must have been living under and check him out. His new album Riser is rumored to be being released this coming Fall, though no date as been currently set. For more information on Bentley and his current tour schedule please visit is website.
