‘Easy’ by Tammara Webber

Easy is by New York Times bestseller author Tammara Webber. She writes mature young adult and new adult contemporary novels. Webber is a hopeful romantic that loves a happy ending. She shares a relatable and realistic story with dynamic characters in her novel Easy.

The groundbreaking angst novel follows Jacqueline and Lucas. Jacqueline follows her high school boyfriend, Kennedy, to his dream college. Instead of following her dream of attending a music conservatory she enrolls in the state college that doesn’t specialize in her major. Jacqueline has revolved her life around Kennedy and doesn’t have much of an identity, friends, or direction without him. Kennedy filled Jacqueline’s head with a picture perfect life in the future and calls her his ‘Jackie O.’

Life flips upside down once Kennedy rushes a fraternity and wants to start dating other people. Kennedy breaks up with Jacqueline and she is left alone with all her former friends that have started to ignore her. All of her former friends were only friends with her because of Kennedy and she has to deal with being single. With her confusion and heart break from the break up she starts falling back in her classes and starts failing macroeconomics.

Her luck gets worse once she leaves a party alone and Kennedy’s fraternity brother assaults and tries to rape Jacqueline. A mysterious stranger rescues Jacqueline just in time before the attack happened. Jacqueline is left with crude memories that she wishes to erase but longs to know the mysterious knight of the night.

Lucas is a quintessential bad boy with a secretive past. He sits in the back of Jacqueline’s macroeconomics class that sketches in his notebook oblivious to the professor’s lecture. She is attracted to his demeanor and character. Jacqueline’s professor recommends she gets tutoring from his student Landon. She starts to email Landon for help and in turn she starts building an attraction for the tutor without seeing him. There seems to be an eerie connection and similarity between Landon and Lucas.

Jacqueline’s attacker starts to stalk her and she enrolls in self-defense classes. Being around Lucas and talking to Landon through email she starts to build her identity again. Jacqueline starts to get her life together and doesn’t depend on a man for happiness. She becomes a strong and independent woman that fights through the painful memories and helps other victims in the process.

Easy handles the raw and serious issue of sexual assault flawlessly. Webber provides a inspirational message and captures female liberation and strength. It has twists and surprises throughout the story and will have you entertained from beginning to end.
